SH RACING’S TOMAS SCHECKTER HAS A SOLID LAST DAY OF PRACTICE BEFORE QUALIFYING FOR THE 2011 INDIANAPOLIS 500

SPEEDWAY, IN – MAY 20, 2011 – KV Racing Technology - SH Racing driver Tomas Scheckter continued to make progress in today’s final practice prior to tomorrow’s qualifying for the 2011 Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.

Scheckter, 30, started the day working on his race setup doing long runs with a full load of fuel and in traffic. Happy with how his No. 07 Team REDLINE Xtreme machine felt, he returned to the garage where his crew setup his car in qualifying trim. Simulating a qualifying run, four laps with less fuel and no traffic, proved difficult because of all the cars on track. However, he did manage to run a qualifying simulation in preparation for tomorrow. Scheckter, who topped the 225 mph mark for the first time today with a lap of 225.141 mph, logged 51 laps today giving him 127 total since Opening Day.

Commenting on how the day went, Scheckter said, “It has been a fairly productive day. We started practice on race setup, which I feel fairly happy with. Later this afternoon we worked on our qualifying setup and found some time to mimic a qualifying run, but unfortunately we still need to find more speed. I will look over the data tonight with my engineers and hopefully we will improve the speed of the Team REDLINE Xtreme car for qualifying tomorrow."

Scheckter, will be attempting to qualify for his 10th Indy 500 and should he make the race will have competed in an IZOD IndyCar Series event for the 10th consecutive season. In nine previous races at the Brickyard, Scheckter has a best qualifying position of 10th (in 2002, 2004 and 2007) and a best finish of fourth in 2003 (finished seventh in 2007). In his inaugural Indy 500, in 2002, Scheckter led 85 laps and was leading the race as late as lap 173 of the 200 lap contest when an incident in Turn 4 knocked him out of the contest. Never-the-less he was named the Indianapolis 500 co-Rookie of the Year. Scheckter has led the Indy 500 on three separate occasions, totaling 153 laps.

Qualifying for the 2011 Indianapolis 500 starts tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with Pole Day when the pole and the first 24 spots on the grid will be determined. Bump Day, Sunday, the final nine cars will qualify. The 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 will be held Sunday, May 29. It will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET.
