SH Racing has a solid opening day for the 2011 Indianapolis 500
SPEEDWAY, IN - MAY 14, 2011 - KV Racing Technology - SH Racing driver Tomas
Scheckter didn’t show any signs of nervousness on Opening Day for the 100th
anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in
Speedway, IN.
Scheckter, driving the No. 07 Team REDLINE Xtreme machine for the first time
this year, recorded a speed of 220.175 mph, which placed him 27th on the timing
sheet. Running just seven laps today, Scheckter is returning to the Brickyard to
attempt to qualify for his 10th Indy 500.
The session was interrupted by showers, but for Scheckter, it wasn’t the speed
that was the aim today, but shaking down the car and connecting with the team.
Commenting on his opening day of practice, the talented South African said, “It
was a good day. We just did a few laps, but I was able to get to know the team
and found the car pretty easy to drive. We came across a few problems, not big
problems, handling issues, but I think I know the right direction I want the car
to go. One thing I discovered today is that Tony and I like the same things, had
similar problems, so it’s going to be good working with him this month.”
Practice will resume tomorrow at noon on the historic 2.5 mile speedway oval.
The 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 will be held on Sunday, May 29. It
will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET.
