SH RACING’S TOMAS SCHECKTER QUALIFIES 22ND FOR THE 2011 INDIANAPOLIS 500
SPEEDWAY, IN – MAY 22, 2011 – KV Racing Technology - SH Racing driver Tomas
Scheckter will start 22nd in the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 at
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.
Scheckter, 30, driving the No. 07 Team REDLINE Xtreme machine, had a nervous wait
today for final confirmation that he had qualified for his 10th Indianapolis
500. Yesterday, during Pole Day, Scheckter provisionally qualified 22nd, the
inside of row eight, with a four lap average of 224.433 mph putting him in
slight danger of being “bumped” today. However, rain disrupted qualifying
attempts and drivers that filled the last nine spots had less speed, putting
them closer to the bubble.
"I am definitely very happy about today”, said
Scheckter. “We got a little bit worried as it’s always nerve racking on Bump
Day. The KV Racing Technology - SH Racing team did an unbelievable job. We
struggled at times during the week where we really didn't know where the speed
went, but we continued to work and found some problems with the car and improved
it. I just really have to thank the whole team again for allowing me to qualify
the Team REDLINE Xtreme car on the first day. Now it’s time to concentrate on
race setup and make sure we can have a car at the front next Sunday."
“Both
T-Scheck and the KVRT-SH crew gelled together perfectly to defend Team Redline
Xtreme's position on Pole day and I'm very pleased,” said SH Racing principal
James "Sulli" Sullivan. “We will be carrying the Redline Xtreme Energy, Circle K
and Lone Star Distribution banners with pride on race day, and we're excited
about what the future holds”, added Sulli.
Scheckter, has now qualified for his
10th Indy 500 and will compete in an IZOD IndyCar Series race for the 10th
consecutive season. His best qualifying position is 10th (2002, 2004 and 2007)
and best finish is fourth in 2003 (finished seventh in 2007). In his inaugural
Indy 500, in 2002, Scheckter led 85 laps and was leading the race as late as lap
173 of the 200 lap contest when an incident in Turn 4 knocked him out of the
race. Never-the-less he was named the Indianapolis 500 co-Rookie of the Year. He
has led the Indy 500 on three separate occasions totaling 153 laps.
Final
practice for the Indianapolis 500 will be Friday, May 27 (Carb Day) from 11:00
a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 will be held
Sunday, May 29. It will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 12:00 p.m.
